Seamer Clint McKay grabbed five wickets as Australia beat Sri Lanka by 16 runs to win the best-of-three one-day tri-series 2-1 in Adelaide.
Matt Wade (49) and David Warner (48) put on 75 for the first wicket, while Brett Lee (32) and McKay (28) chipped in late on to help the hosts make 231.
Paceman Lee (3-59) made early inroads, but Upul Tharanga (71) kept Sri Lanka in the hunt for much of their innings.
After he fell, McKay (5-28) cleaned up the tail with seven balls to spare.
Sri Lanka had levelled the finals at 1-1 on Tuesday when they chased down 272 to win the second match.
Victory in the triangular series, which had also featured India, keeps Australia on top of the ODI rankings.
Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene said: "If we were given 231 we would have taken it. They put a lot of pressure on us and it was one of those days.
"I am very proud of the boys against two quality teams.
"The objective is to rebuild for the next four years, we've learnt a lot and I'm proud of the youngsters."
Australia now head to the West Indies - but they will be without captain Michael Clarke, who missed the decider with a hamstring strain, which will keep him out of the one-dayers in the Caribbean although he hopes to return for the Tests.
"They are a much better team without me!" Clarke joked.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka will play India, Pakistan and Bangladesh in the Asia Cup, which starts on 12 March, before hosting England in a two-Test series.
