The top three Indian Premier League (IPL) teams – Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai – were originally to be allotted home venues. It is learnt from sources within BCCI that Mumbai wasn’t allotted any games citing the monsoon that is likely to continue into September.
Hyderabad will host the qualifying tournament (September 19-21), while Kolkata will join Chennai, and Bangalore, as the third host venue of the main event. Three teams from the qualifying stage will join the seven that have already qualified and play out the format used in 2010.
